zColo Unveils ‘Metro Interconnect’ to Expand Data Center Outreach

By admin, July 10, 2012 2:44 pm

Companies these days need to exchange traffic and connect with numerous providers on a different floor or suite within the same building. What they need is a complete fiber network to cater to their connection requirements.

For hard-to-reach locations, users need to work with building management and other providers to get an end-to-end solution.

To help them with these challenges, zColo, a Zayo Group?(News – Alert) Company, has introduced Metro Interconnect, a new product that enhances the reach of its data center customers in large metro areas. The product launch is in conjunction with the close of AboveNet, an acquisition Zayo Group completed on July 2, 2012.

Metro Interconnect improves zColo’s Interconnection-focused strategy, using dark fiber cross-connects to improve a customer’s reach from zColo sites to major in-market carrier hotels and data centers. Conventional colocation service providers provide an in-suite connectivity “ecosystem” that is restricted as it supports access only to the networks and customers present within the building.

“With Zayo’s dense metro fiber assets in the largest US markets, we feel Metro Interconnect is a unique offering that replaces the need for customers to maintain a physical presence across multiple data center locations,” stated Chris Morley, president of zColo. Several truck- best-driving-school.com companies contract with local.. “Customers are now able to consolidate their colocation assets with a ‘virtual’ presence across the major Points of Presence in metro markets.”

Conolog Inks First Contract for Fidra Fiber Optic Switch with Southern Company

By admin, June 6, 2012 7:24 pm

Conolog?(News – Alert) Corp division INIVEN – responsible for manufacturing audio and digital teleprotection terminals, fiber optic communication solutions and FSK telemetry terminals – has established the first sales contract for its fiber optic protective relaying communication unit, Fidra.

The contract stipulates that INIVEN will manufacturer, deploy and support Fidra units to Southern Company, one of the largest electricity providers in the United States with over four million customers.

“The contract is significant and helps our Company continue to grow as we refocus our efforts on helping fiber optic service providers and electric utilities solve their unique fiber optic communication challenges,” said Michael Horn, a member of Conolog’s Board of Directors.

Fidra is a physical fiber optic switch capable of enabling active control of fiber optic communication, allowing electric utilities companies to more easily manage any type of fiber optics signaling for both regular operations and testing. It is also the first solution of its kind.

“Fidra is the first-ever active, multifunction fiber network physical switch of its type, designed to monitor, reroute, repeat and disable up to three fiber optic communication pairs,” said Marc Benou, president of Conolog. “Perhaps most important is that following the April launch of Fidra, we’ve secured our first contract in less than 60 days.” ?

Fidra is the latest in an extensive line of fiber optic solutions from INIVEN, including “GlowWorm,” a fiber optic detector which can be used in any fiber optic line or network without the need to cut the cable.

Conolog Corporation was established in 1968, initially specializing in solving complex commercial and military communications challenges. With the acquisition of INIVEN in 1980, Conolog added FSK audio communication equipment manufacturing to its repertoire.

In October of last year, Conolog entered subscription agreements with 14 accredited investors for the insurance and sale of a total of 5,114,072 shares in the company’s common stock. The aggregate purchase price was $0.10 per share, resulting in proceeds for the company of $511,407.20 from the subscribers.

Fiber-Optic Cable between Cuba and Venezuela is in Full Motion

By admin, June 1, 2012 11:13 pm

The long awaited fiber-optic cable between Cuba and Venezuela as a quick, efficient new ramp onto the Internet has finally been revealed to be “in full operation,” but only strictly between the two governments, as reported by experts.

Those in Cuba currently suffer from the slowest and most expensive Internet access in Latin America, as their connections must go through satellites rather than faster, cheaper fiber-optic cables. This is expected to change, however, with the $70 million ALBA-1-fiber-optic cable, laid under the Caribbean from Venezuela to Siboney Beach, primarily paid for by Hugo Chavez, Venezuela’s leftist President.

Why does the cable only remain available to people off the island though? This obviously brings about speculation and rumors of all types, such as a corruption scandal last summer at the Cuban state telecommunications monopoly (ETECSA), which spread reports like wildfire, accusing the cable of not working because bribes had led to the purchase of bad equipment. Venezuelan bloggers have also jumped the bandwagon, posting unconfirmed reports insisting that sensitive, Venezuelan government information including voting, citizenship and intelligence records are being kept in Cuba.

This Thursday, Venezuela’s science and technology minister, Jorge Arreaza, assured reporters the cable “is absolutely operational. It will depend on Cuba’s government how it uses it . Notes:For generations every dmv driving test child in America knew about Nathan Hale, the young dmv driving test master, who at the timeof the Revolution became an ardent Patriot…. but we know that the undersea cable is in full operation.” Additionally, Arreaza suggested that Venezuela is using the cable, and that Venezuela has benefited from a spur that goes from Cuba to Jamaica and can connect to other fiber-optic cables linking the United States and Europe.

Apparently, data collected by Renesys?(News – Alert), a New Hampshire company that monitors the global Internet, shows that all connections to Cuba from Miami, New York, Dallas and Sao Paulo in Brazil are being transmitted via satellites. Furthermore, a Renesys official relayed that, “there is no evidence of a submarine cable in use in Cuba in 2012.”

Supporters of Cuban engagement here in the U.S. argue that the U.S. embargoes restrictions on the sale of advanced telecommunications equipment to the island, and that is what’s ultimately responsible for its lag in Internet activity.
