B&B Electronics Europe Deploys Communications Network for Volvo Ocean Race Galway Grand Finale

By admin, July 6, 2012 2:13 pm

B&B Electronics recently announced that its European operation has provided an extensive fiber, cellular and wireless communications network for the Volvo Ocean Race Galway Grand Finale.

The fiber, cellular and wireless communications network is deployed across 10 event locations, including the docks area, event headquarters, media center, Race Village, Global Village and seaside resort of Salthill. Company officials said that the network supports security, crowd management, Web feeds, live TV and radio broadcasts, video streaming, credit card and point-of-sale facilities.

In addition, it also supports commentator feeds, big screen displays and interfaces to Volvo’s own IT Group.

Previously, Galway based B&B Electronics Europe provided network expertise for the Galway leg of the Volvo Ocean Race in 2009. The company is again providing as well as monitoring the physical communications infrastructure including Internet access and a ruggedized network that is used by the race teams, media and Galway event management teams.

In order to ensure network redundancy and make difficult remote connections, fiber, cellular and other wireless communications technologies were used, according to company officials.

There is a 20 km of fiber in the docks area that includes sections microtrenched into the ground as well as marine fiber installed by divers. Using its GhostBridge Wireless Ethernet Bridges, the company created point-to-point equipment links across the harbor to establish Internet connectivity at remote locations — where wired infrastructure was not feasible.

Additional network equipment included the company’s ELinx Ethernet Extenders, ELinx ESW Series Ethernet Switches, Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) Switches, and Cellular Wireless Routers used for failover connectivity.

Launched last year in February, GhostBridge creates a transparent, secure, high-speed — up to 150Mbps — point-to-point link between two remote devices or networks, eliminating up to 15km of expensive and damage-prone wiring, said company officials.

B&B worked with the Galway event organizer, Let’s Do It Global, to provide the network.

B&B Electronics is a provider of rugged M2M connectivity and communications solutions for wireless and wired networks. online casino . “Our engineers are increasingly asked to help connect M2M devices being deployed in increasingly challenging locations, and where network boundaries are being relentlessly stretched to reach them, but this project takes the cake,” said Jerry O’Gorman, managing director at B&B Electronics Europe.

Belkin Taps Airgain for Embedded Antennas in Newest Routers

By admin, July 3, 2012 3:31 pm

Belkin is a major name in the computer peripherals front, so hearing that they’ve got plans to launch a new line of WiFi?(News – Alert) routers is more than noteworthy. But for these new routers, they needed a big new name in embedded antennas to support them, and that’s why they turned to Airgain.

Airgain’s antenna systems will be part of Belkin’s AC1000DB and AC1200DB Wi-Fi Dual-Band AC+ Gigabit Routers, which are set to release this summer. The antennas are part of a development program that’s been ongoing since 2004, which in turn gives them a whole series of proprietary methods and measurement tools that make Airgain antennas impressive pieces of hardware, and impart better overall wireless performance for those devices that use the antennas. In fact, previous Belkin models have also incorporated Airgain antennas, at last report, including the N150, N300, N600 and N900 series routers.

Belkin’s Senior Director of Networking, Mike Chen, described the reasoning behind going with Airgain, saying “This provides improved speed and coverage over previous generation 802.11n devices, and enhances the online streaming experience for videos, movies, and music throughout the home. Leveraging Airgain’s embedded antenna technology and integration approach, our new 802.11ac router will allow consumers to enjoy the full capabilities of this new technology.”

In turn, Airgain’s President and CEO, Charles Myers, explained Airgain’s connection with Belkin by saying “We pride ourselves on being the only antenna vendor in the market today that designs throughput focused antenna solutions, and we are excited to be working with Belkin to deliver maximum performance antenna solutions for its market-leading home networking products.”

With the demand for bandwidth steadily growing thanks to a variety of online-only products, from text to video to gaming, it’s not surprising that the hardware necessary to get the bandwidth to the devices that use it is also both increasing and improving. Belkin hardware has a long history of quality, and seeing Airgain take part in that history is a welcome development indeed. It will of course be interesting to see what Belkin and Airgain follow these developments up with, but in the short term, the Belkin and Airgain coalition should be a solid boost to the fortunes of online gamers, online video watchers, or just anyone who enjoys a solid Internet connection without needing to be tethered by a cable to a device.

Combining Diversity and Low Latency with Sidera and Sabey

By admin, July 2, 2012 3:03 pm

The recent collaboration between Sidera Networks?(News – Alert) and Sabey Data Centers means a few things for the evolution of the data center industry not the least of which is the combining of diversity and latency. Clint Heiden?(News – Alert), president of Sidera, shed some light at last week’s Telecom Exchange 2012 in New York City on what has influenced Sidera’s decisions over the last several months, and what all this cloud business means moving forward for the industry.

As a provider of fiber optic-based network solutions, Sidera brings its market expertise to Sabey Data Centers to connect its properties in New York, Ashburn, VA, and Seattle, WA.

Heiden said that the two major reasons Sidera has “gone after the data center” include the movement to the cloud and how “the ability to do things for data centers is coming to fruition.” The developments in the fiber-optic network space now enable impressive connectivity.

“We are able to take a Sabey data center in New York and one in Seattle and make them feel like the same data center. The theory is that the latency is so low you can back up your data in Washington State where power is 2 cents and have it feel like power in New York where data is 14 cents,” said Heiden. Making the connectivity of the highest quality at the lowest cost is what this collaboration brings to market.

Ubiquity is also at the forefront of this collaborative partnership. Sidera’s goal is for a user to be able to have the Internet at the same price in one location as the next. “If I go to Clifden or Secausus, a 1 gig is the same as it is in Chicago. From budgeting standpoint, the operators can go to their bosses, and they can tell them they can disperse data traffic across whichever points they want because Sidera prices the entire Internet at one price,” said Heiden.

Sabey will be able to focus on its financial and healthcare customers more keenly now as the diversity and low latency brought to its data centers with Sidera’s collaboration will enable it to continue to deliver prime uptime, scale, and service. John Sabey, president of the company, noted in the news, “Sidera allows us to extend that focus with unique diversity and low-latency connectivity throughout the New York Metro and between New York and Ashburn, VA, which are critical areas for our financial services and healthcare customers.”

Essentially, the diversity of the connections while maintaining low latency is what Sidera focuses on in order to deliver this high-quality connectivity. “The cloud is making things simple – that’s what it’s about,” said Heiden. “Infrastructure and IT pricing. It’s the next level of simplicity. It’s about supplying the best amount of bandwidth necessary.”
