Conolog Inks First Contract for Fidra Fiber Optic Switch with Southern Company

By admin, June 6, 2012 7:24 pm

Conolog?(News – Alert) Corp division INIVEN – responsible for manufacturing audio and digital teleprotection terminals, fiber optic communication solutions and FSK telemetry terminals – has established the first sales contract for its fiber optic protective relaying communication unit, Fidra.

The contract stipulates that INIVEN will manufacturer, deploy and support Fidra units to Southern Company, one of the largest electricity providers in the United States with over four million customers.

“The contract is significant and helps our Company continue to grow as we refocus our efforts on helping fiber optic service providers and electric utilities solve their unique fiber optic communication challenges,” said Michael Horn, a member of Conolog’s Board of Directors.

Fidra is a physical fiber optic switch capable of enabling active control of fiber optic communication, allowing electric utilities companies to more easily manage any type of fiber optics signaling for both regular operations and testing. It is also the first solution of its kind.

“Fidra is the first-ever active, multifunction fiber network physical switch of its type, designed to monitor, reroute, repeat and disable up to three fiber optic communication pairs,” said Marc Benou, president of Conolog. “Perhaps most important is that following the April launch of Fidra, we’ve secured our first contract in less than 60 days.” ?

Fidra is the latest in an extensive line of fiber optic solutions from INIVEN, including “GlowWorm,” a fiber optic detector which can be used in any fiber optic line or network without the need to cut the cable.

Conolog Corporation was established in 1968, initially specializing in solving complex commercial and military communications challenges. With the acquisition of INIVEN in 1980, Conolog added FSK audio communication equipment manufacturing to its repertoire.

In October of last year, Conolog entered subscription agreements with 14 accredited investors for the insurance and sale of a total of 5,114,072 shares in the company’s common stock. The aggregate purchase price was $0.10 per share, resulting in proceeds for the company of $511,407.20 from the subscribers.

LS Cable & System develops air blown fiber optic composite power cable

By admin, February 1, 2012 9:14 am

Wednesday, Feb 01, 2012

â–  Helps for building more efficient smart grids by combining 144 cables into one
â–  Immediately after development, LS Cable & System received an order from Energy Australia worth $10 million.
â–  As it is easy to build and manage, it has quickly become popular among domestic and overseas power authorities as well as global construction companies.

Seoul, Korea, Feburary, 1st – On the 1st, LS Cable & System (CEO & Chairman: Christopher Koo) introduced a new 12/20kV air-blown fiber optic composite power cable that combines both electric power and communication cables, necessary for building smart grids and communication networks, into one. Immediately after the announcement the Company entered into a supply contract with Energy Australia worth $10 million (KRW11.2 billion).

The most salient characteristic of this cable is that unlike conventional fiber optic composite cables installation of this product is done using high-pressure air. With this new installation method a tube of 3∼5mm in diameter is installed inside the cable and the fiber optics are pushed inside by the high-pressure air. Existing fiber optic composite cables can combine a maximum of 16 core wires into one, but this new method makes it possible to bind up to 144 optical cable core wires.

A key feature of the air blown fiber optic composite power cable is that it is also scalable which makes it possible to meet the needs of customers who want to build-out power grids and communication networks as demand arises. Also, unlike conventional fiber optic composite cables, the duel structure consisting of a plastic tube and sheath protects the cable, thereby greatly reducing the risk of damage. And because only the internal cable needs to be replaced using air pressure, operating and investment costs are also reduced. Another advantage is that the optical cable can be used to monitor the temperature and state of the cables in real time.

Mr. Heonsang Lee, Director of Overseas Sales, said, “We will work hard to promote this product targeting domestic and overseas power authorities that want to replace their existing power grids and build new smart and power grids. We will also target global construction companies that want to provide a residential environment that better fits the new lifestyle of their residents. Our goal is to turn over $40 million in the next five years.”

Electro Standards Laboratories Unveils Single Channel LC Duplex A/B Switch

By admin, January 5, 2012 12:08 pm

Electro Standards Laboratories (ESL), a provider of complex network switches, data acquisition products, and MIL spec cables, has unveiled a new remotely controllable fiber optic A/B switcher to provide backup for LC duplex networks.

The latest offering from ESL – Model 6301 single channel LC duplex A/B switch, is a part of the company’s line of QuickSwitch fiber optic switches. It is an LC Duplex A/B Switch with Telnet and graphical user interface (GUI) remote control.

According to ESL, the new QuickSwitch Single Channel LC Duplex A/B Switch facilitates a device connected to the COM port access to the A or B port. It can be controlled locally by manually operating the front panel pushbutton or remotely from the RJ45 Remote Control port located on the rear of the unit. The unit can be remotely controlled by using an Ethernet 10/100 Base-T connection and either Telnet commands or graphical user interface.

Providing backup for LC duplex networks, the new fiber optic A/B switcher helps user to easily change switch position, lockout front panel pushbutton control or obtain switch status via Telnet command interface or graphical user interface for critical switching to a backup device or network.

Featuring cutting edge MEMS-based mirror/prism technology that supports Gigabit data rates, the 6301 A/B switch is IP Addressable with secure setup/configuration access limited by password protection, in order to provide secure, reliable network alternate-path switching.

In addition, the 6301 is also service protocol transparent as well as bit-rate and data transparent with optical data throughput scalability.

According to ESL, all fiber ports on the new fiber optic A/B switcher are LC Duplex, multimode, 50/125 micron and support a wavelength of 850 nm.

Apart from featuring easy to use, simple point and click operation via standard Web browser, the new QuickSwitch 6301’s GUI Software also features a CE and UL listed table mount Wide Range Power Supply option with 100 VAC/240 VAC, 50Hz/60Hz and IEC (News – Alert) 60320 C14 inlet instead of standard power module to support international applications.

According to ESL, the LAN access provides users with access to control, across the LAN or over the Internet, if user network is configured accordingly.

In addition, the new A/B switcher also retains last switch position in the event of a power loss and continues to pass data. The unit can maintain its position and continue to pass data when the power is regained.

In other news, ESL recently announced a new fiber optic ST duplex A/B softswitch that features dual wavelength, remote serial control and optional graphic user interface (GUI).

The Model 6190 Fiber Optic A/B Switch allows users to access two separate devices, ports A & B, via connection through a device connected to the Common port of the switch, company officials said.
