Corning Incorporated Aids FibreCo Telecommunications with its Optical Fiber in South Africa

Corning?(News – Alert) Incorporated has been helping FibreCo Telecommunications, a South African open-access network provider, in deploying its optical fiber in South Africa.

FibreCo Telecommunications is using Corning’s SMF-28e+(R) LL and LEAF(R) optical fibers in its new ultra-high-speed, long-distance fiber optic network in South Africa. This unique combination of low attenuation values and low polarization mode dispersion (PMD) with ITU G.652.D-compliant performance is expected to bring longer spans and reach. The company officials confirmed that the additional routes will be built in the next phase to enhance network redundancy and resilience. The project’s total distance is expected to cover 12,000 km.

New Bidirectional Optical Module from OMRON can Transmit 14Gb/s

Omron Network Products, LLC, an Americas subsidiary of Omron Corporation and the manufacturer of high-performance optical modules for VoF (Video over Fiber) and high speed data transmission, is planning to demonstrate a new bidirectional optical module to select customer and partners. The new product is called the Data Module or P1xX6B-SX51x-02A. The device is capable of transmitting 14Gb/s downstream and 155Mb upstream, all over a single multimode fiber and can be used to transmit signals from a distance of 300m to 1km.

According to a press release, the new Data Module is designed for easy use and can be rapidly implemented into various fiber extension products. The Data Module includes a pre-programmed laser driver, an integrated SC clip and a durable metal housing with EMI shielding.

Martin Smith, ONP’s director of marketing, said, “Many of our customers told us they wanted a bidirectional module that would allow them more flexibility in designs, and we listened. OFS Partners with T8 for Faster Fiber Network

Majority of North American FTTH Households Are in the U.S.

According to a recent study released by the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council Americas, the number of North American households connected to all-fiber networks has risen by 13 percent since last April. As a result, FTTH subscribers have grown to 8 million, wrote Multichannel News.
