Eurofiber Selects Infinera to Offer 100 Gigabit Ethernet Services

Recently, Eurofiber selected Infinera?(News – Alert) DTN to provide 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100 GbE) services across Eurofiber’s Netherlands and Belgium network based on the Infinera DTN platform.

The Infinera DTN-X P-OTN platform brings scale, simplicity and efficiency of the digital optical network into the terabit age and is built upon the design principles of the highly successful Infinera DTN platform. The DTN-X provides the next step function in optical networking and offers large scale Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC), built-in OTN (ITU G.709) switch with 1Gb/s granularity and GMPLS based network intelligence that enables dynamically protected mesh networks.

By providing 100 GbE services to their customers, Eurofiber can extend the company’s product portfolio with a DWDM-network based on the Infinera DTN platform.

As it now provides 100 GbE, customers of Eurofiber can meet the quickly growing bandwidth demands from Internet exchanges, data centers, cable companies and Internet service providers.

Corning Incorporated Aids FibreCo Telecommunications with its Optical Fiber in South Africa

Corning?(News – Alert) Incorporated has been helping FibreCo Telecommunications, a South African open-access network provider, in deploying its optical fiber in South Africa.

FibreCo Telecommunications is using Corning’s SMF-28e+(R) LL and LEAF(R) optical fibers in its new ultra-high-speed, long-distance fiber optic network in South Africa. This unique combination of low attenuation values and low polarization mode dispersion (PMD) with ITU G.652.D-compliant performance is expected to bring longer spans and reach. Also, SMF-28e+ LL fiber enables more repair margin which is important when fiber is damaged or cut, said the company officials.

This project first involves a 2,000-km link between Johannesburg and Cape Town connecting Bloemfontein, East London, and Port Elizabeth. The company officials confirmed that the additional routes will be built in the next phase to enhance network redundancy and resilience. The project’s total distance is expected to cover 12,000 km.

Pacnet and Infinera Demonstrate 500 Gb/s Optical Super-Channels in Asia

Pacnet?(News – Alert), Asia’s leading communications provider delivering integrated high-performance data delivery and hosting services on a unified platform, in pact with Infinera?(News – Alert), which specializes in Digital Optical Networking systems, has successfully demonstrated 500 Gb/s optical super channels in Asia.

This demonstration marks another milestone that highlights Infinera’s application to Ultra-Long Haul subsea super-channels based on Infinera’s 500 Gb/s Photonic Integrated Circuit technology.

The testing was conducted with Infinera’s DTN-X platform, which has begun shipping this quarter and also demonstrated the ability to use FlexCoherent technology to select the modulation format in order to optimize fiber capacity and reach.

Pacnet owns and operates the leading pan-Asian submarine cable network touching 21 cable landing stations and extends from India to the U.S. At the heart of this network is EAC-C2C, Asia’s leading state-of-the-art fiber optic submarine cable network, which spans 36,800 km and serves customers globally.

The company is engaged in industry collaboration to build technologically advanced networks globally. ?The latest demonstration provides that Pacnet’s network can scale up with the industry’s latest high speed optical technologies to deliver faster services to our customers, according to Barney.

Infinera is the first to demonstrate super-channels based on 500 Gb/s photonic integrated circuits (PICs). A super-channel is a large unit of optical capacity created by combining multiple optical carriers into a single managed entity. It allows optical networks to scale capacity without scaling operational cost and complexity.

With FlexCoherent technology, operators can also optimize transmission performance across a range of applications using multiple software-programmable modulation formats.

“Long-haul capable 500Gb/s super-channels are critical for carrier networks, especially in submarine applications such as Pacnet,” said Tom Fallon, Infinera CEO, in a statement. ?

The true value of Infinera’s DTN-X is its ability to future proof customers’ fiber infrastructure, so they can continue to flexibly grow their network to accommodate wherever their customer demand takes them, according to Fallon.

Infinera also announced that DANTE, an operator of advanced networks for research and education, has selected Infinera for the pan-European G?ANT network it has built and operates on behalf of Europe’s national research and education networks (NRENs).?

Indiana Fiber Network Taps Ciena to Expand Capacity and Flexibility of its Network

Network specialist, Ciena Corporation announced that Indiana Fiber Network (IFN) has selected the packet-optical switching and intelligent control plane software to expand the capacity and service flexibility of its backbone network.

IFN is a statewide fiber optic network owned by a consortium of 20 independent telephone companies. Ciena’s 5430 Packet-Optical Reconfigurable Switching System (RSS) will serve as key aggregation switches, delivering regionalized OTN and Ethernet traffic to key points in IFN’s network offering the required speed and simplicity.

Ciena’s OneConnect Intelligent Control Plane software will help 5430 switches provide IFN with the ability to automate provisioning and management of its network, while mesh restoration will improve network resiliency and service availability.

“Our recent upgrade is designed to create an intelligent, automated network that can adapt to the diverse service requirements of our customer base — including both member companies and businesses — and be monitored, managed and reprogrammed remotely from our Network Operations Center,” said Jerry Haver, planning and engineering manager, IFN, in a statement.

Ciena’s packet-optical equipment and OneConnect control plane technology also allow IFN to offer their customers flexible, high-powered bandwidth switching and increased capacity via a simplified infrastructure. With these, IFN can deliver SONET, Gigabit Ethernet, storage and other services.

OneConnect control plane software also gives them a simple and seamless migration path to next generation OTN, with built in restoration capabilities that minimize the need for truck rolls during network events.?IFN can also support customers growing broadband demands and data center connectivity requirements via a scalable, dynamic and reconfigurable infrastructure.

Zayo Enhances Communication Route Between Chicago and Seattle

Zayo Group is in the process of implementing a low latency route between Seattle and Chicago. As compared to the existing route, this low latency service is expected to offer a decreased material latency to the Financial, Content and Carrier customers.
