Sumitomo Electric Industries’ president Mr Masayoshi Matsumoto said to a reporter of Japan Metal Bulletin that the firm is on track for targeted JPY 210 billion of consolidated operating profit for fiscal 2012 ending March 2013 when the firm could secure JPY 80 billion of profit for second half of fiscal 2011.

He indicated that the sales could be several hundred billion yen behind the targeted JPY 3 trillion of sales under the 5 year plan, 12Vision through fiscal 2012 but he emphasized the firm focuses on the current business domain without unnecessary M&A and expansion.

The firm plans JPY 100 billion of consolidated operating profit with JPY 2 trillion of sales for fiscal 2011. The firm targets JPY 20 billion of operating profit with JPY 900 billion of sales in April to September 2011 period while the firm posted 2.4 billion yen of operating profit with JPY 441.6 billion of sales in April to June 2011 period due to severe automobile business after the major earthquake.

However, Mr Matsumoto said that the results in July to September 2011 period could be better than expected thanks to better automotive demand. The firm operates at full capacity both for sinter parts and cemented carbide of industrial materials unit along with automobile unit mainly for wire harness.

The firm also operates at full capacity for glass material of optical fiber both at domestic and Chinese plants as a part of information & communication unit.

Mr Matsumoto said that sales would decrease from export and offshore subsidiaries under higher yen rate while the firm would secure cash flow under the current rate. He expects the targeted JPY 3 trillion of sales in fiscal 2012 could be realized under JPY 120 per USD 1 of rate as the plan was launched.

The firm has improved the profitability by lowering breakeven point through cost cutting effort in order to realize JPY 210 billion of operating profit in fiscal 2012. Mr Matsumoto said the firm has to make additional actions to realize JPY 3 trillion from now and the firm has options for that. However, he said the firm focuses on investment efficiency and doesn’t insist on the target.

Prysmian Group North America introduces LT20 BBXS

By admin, September 29, 2011 4:04 am

Thursday, Sep 29, 2011

Prysmian Group, the world leader in the wire and cable industry, announces the introduction of a new outside plant fiber cable that raises the bar for performance, form, fit and function in the Americas market. Launched under the product name LT20 BBXS, this new outside plant fiber cable offers up to 19% reduction in diameter, up to 30% reduction in weight and comes standard with BendBrightXS bend insensitive fiber.

The smaller, lighter, bend tolerant cable allows the customer to save money by:

Using smaller, lighter reels during installation

  • Reducing duct size and achieving longer blowing distances
  • Installing additional cable in a duct that was previously considered full
  • Reducing loads on poles and strand wire
  • Allowing the use of smaller hand-holes, closures and pedestals

Performance of the new LT20 BBXS product line meets or exceeds industry standards such as GR20, RUS/RDUP PE90, ITU G.652.D, ITU G.657.A2 and is backwards compatible with existing single-mode fibers and loose tube cables. More than 16 billion feet of BendBrightXS fiber has been deployed since its introduction in 2006.

Prysmians LT20 BBXS fiber cable product line sets the stage for future reductions in the size of splice cases, pedestals and cabinets used in the outside plant environment. This product is a game changer for our customers and the industry. The customer has the opportunity to save money while receiving a superior cable product. From an environmental and aesthetic standpoint, this product will drive the use of smaller outside plant accessories such as splice cases, pedestals, hand holes and cabinets, states Greg Williams, Director of Marketing at the Prysmian Group.

The LT20 BBXS design family brings the benefits of Bend-Insensitive Fiber to the Outside Plant, said Jon Fitz, Business Solutions Manager. The cable, buffer tube and fiber can all be installed and stored with significantly smaller bend radii. Full reels are easier to handle, and common operations, like figure-eight and coil storage, are easier to perform.

Wiring Typical Laundry Circuit

By admin, September 26, 2011 10:31 am

It is commonplace for homes today to have one or more of three different laundry circuits. Each has its own unique assignment for supplying power to the laundry appliances. One is a 20-amp circuit designated to run the 120-volt power for the washing machine and the control power for the dryer. This circuit can also supply general-use devices. It is wired with 12-gauge wire and is usually type THHN or THWN wire. This is a dedicated circuit for the laundry room only.

The second is a 240-volt outlet that supplies a 30-amp circuit to feed an electric dryer. This circuit is wired with 10-gauge wire and is also THHN or THWN type wire. This feed is exclusively for and electric dryer and nothing else.

The third is one you may not have thought of. What would a laundry room be without a circuit for lighting? The lighting circuit may not be an independant circuit, and in fact, usually isn’t. It is likely it will be on the same circuit as an adjacent room or hallway.

With the following electrical wirng tips, you’ll be able to add an outlet, install a dryer outlet, or install a single-pole switch in no time.

Alpha Wire Unveils Latest in Environmentally Friendly Hook-up Wire: EcoWire(TM) Plus

By admin, September 22, 2011 5:22 am

Thursday, Sep 22, 2011

Alpha Wire has launched a new extension of its popular EcoWire line tailored for more industrial applications. Offering all the environmental benefits and abrasion resistance characteristics of the original EcoWire, EcoWire Plus also resists oils, fuels, solvents, and other hazardous liquids. EcoWire Plus meets the fluid resistance requirements of ISO 6722 for thin-wall and ultra-thin wall wire, making it an eco-friendly and cost-effective replacement for XLPE-insulated wire.

As with original EcoWire, EcoWire Plus derives its advantage from a modified polyphenylene ether (mPPE) thermoplastic that is inherently lighter and smaller with equal robustness when compared to XLPE. In addition, EcoWire Plus is non-halogenated and contains no heavy metal pigments, meeting RoHS and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) requirements for the elimination of hazardous substances and recyclability.

“EcoWire Plus is a great advancement on our EcoWire line,” says Tim Howlett, Senior Product Manager at Alpha Wire. “Not only does it continue to offer space-saving design and weight reduction, its fluid and chemical resistance is ideal for demanding factory and industrial applications. Plus, it enables significant cost savings when replacing XLPE wire.”

Howlett added, “The positive feedback we received from design engineers, as well as the strong market demand for custom orders of this product, made the EcoWire Plus line addition an obvious next step.”

The initial EcoWire Plus offering is built to ISO 6722 standards for thin and ultra-thin wall requirements and is RoHS and REACH compliant. It is available in sizes from 28 AWG (0.09 mm2) to 10 AWG (4.92 mm2) with stranded bare copper conductors and an operating temperature range of -40°C to +110°C.

For additional information, contact Alpha Wire at 800-52-ALPHA (522-5742) in North America, 800-288-8809 in Europe, and 21-61498201 in Asia. Also, please visit our website to download data sheets, access search filters, and place free sample requests for EcoWire Plus.
